About Gumzo Youth Group

Gumzo Youth Group is a vibrant youth-led community-based organization rooted in Bungoma County, Kenya. We are driven by a shared vision of a just, inclusive, and secure society where every individual can thrive—regardless of gender, identity, or background.

Since our founding, we have worked at the grassroots level to address systemic inequality and promote dignity, justice, and community well-being. Our work is shaped by the voices and leadership of youth, ensuring we remain responsive to the needs of those we serve.

We focus on empowering women, girls, and gender and sexual minorities through rights-based approaches that integrate legal empowerment, psychosocial support, and policy advocacy.

Our Thematic Focus

Access to Justice

We support survivors of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through legal aid, evidence documentation, and trained paralegals across Bungoma County.

Community Safety & Security

We respond to security threats facing vulnerable individuals through crisis intervention, relocation support, and documenting human rights violations.

Policy Advocacy & Legal Reform

We promote accountability through tools like Post-Legislative Scrutiny (PLS) to ensure laws are effectively implemented and inclusive.

SGBV Response

We train community members, health workers, and paralegals to support survivors while engaging police across all 45 wards of Bungoma.

Community Empowerment

Through dialogue forums and leadership training, we equip individuals with knowledge to advocate for themselves and their communities.

Rights Education

We conduct civic education to ensure marginalized groups understand and can claim their rights under Kenyan law.
